Travel to I.N.S.P.I.R.E.

Hello there. It has been a while since I wrote or posted anything on here. Sorry about that. I wish I could say that there was some profound reason for it, but if I’m being honest it was that I felt lost and uninspired.

For me, writing comes from passion. A passion for life that has been missing recently. No passion = no writing. But I’m happy to report that I have felt compelled to write again. A renewed zest for life and a new feeling of inspiration.

Having just returned from a month of pure travel bliss has me feeling both hopeful and inspired. Where did I go on this epic journey? Three magical countries: Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. My time on the other side of the world has filled me with new ideas and new content that I can’t wait to share, but that’s not what this post is about. This post is about inspiration that can come from travel. I hope it inspires you to stretch your boundaries, be daring and explore the world.

I = inform

N = network

S = support

P = prepare

I = introduce

R = reflect

E = elevate

Travel has inspired me in these ways and more. It has made me a more informed person, learning about the people, cultures and histories of places I once knew very little about. An example of this is the horrific genocide that occurred in Cambodia in the 1970s that was described to me by a local guide who had lost 5 of his siblings and his father. I encourage anyone travelling to make sure to learn about the history of the places you visit. It is important.

Travel has also allowed me to expand my network of friends by meeting people of all ages and backgrounds. I am happy to say I now have invitations to stay with these friends in countries all over the world! 🙂

I don’t know if this happens for everyone but travel often supports me by lifting my spirits, reminding me that there is more to life than the little bubble each of us is often stuck in, and allowing me to make a positive difference in peoples lives. There are so many charities and organizations that give back to local people (for example, the Planeterra Foundation, who is partnered with G Adventures to help travellers give back to local communities all over the world). These organizations inspire me to “see the world and make a difference”.

Travel also helps to prepare me for the challenges in my life. It offers a sobering reminder of how fortunate we are to be alive and (for me) to live in a country of so much opportunity. The insight and perspective that I gain from travelling allows me to see life in a different light and empowers me to face and conquer my own obstacles.

This one is a no brainer – travel inspires by introducing you to new things. New people. New customs. New sights. New ideas. New foods (although sometimes these new foods can be a hard lesson, which I experienced with a 12 hour bout of food poisoning on my latest adventure)….My advice? Embrace all the new-ness, the good and the not so good.

Travelling can also allow you to reflect. Reflecting on your own life, your wants and needs, can be a scary thing. The scarier it is, the more necessary it is. Travel often places you out of your comfort zone (or at least it should), and provides a new lens through which you can view your own life “back home”. Reflection can lead to realization and realization can lead to change. I have found that for the most part, change is good.

This last one is something I have only recently realized. My travel experiences have elevated me in ways that nothing else can. It opens my mind, expands my understanding of the world and increases my awareness. I never feel better or more alive than when I am truly appreciating every moment in a place that is new. The most recent one? I was fortunate enough to be blessed by a Buddhist monk in the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, a transformative experience that I will never forget.

For all of you who need a little inspiration in your life. Close your eyes and point to a spot on a map. Then tell yourself that you will go there, sooner rather than later. You won’t regret it.

  1. Travelers like you make me believe that one day, we can have a beautiful world where we are all one and things like nationality and religion are respected by all
